The Twin Cities girls basketball scene continues to heat up as the winter break approaches, with top-ranked teams delivering statement wins and star players putting up eye-popping numbers. Here’s the latest on the metro’s powerhouses, standout athletes, and some key scores from the past week.
Metro’s Top Teams & Recent Results
Hopkins (Class 4A, 7-1)The defending champs remain at No. 1, bouncing back from an early loss and picking up another big win. On December 19, they rolled over Woodbury, 75-49.
Minnetonka (Class 4A, 8-0)Still undefeated and ranked No. 2, Minnetonka continues to impress with a deep roster. Senior leaders Lanelle Wright and Le’Sedra Williams are pushing the Skippers toward another title run.
Rosemount (Class 4A, 5-0)Rosemount stays perfect, led by the high-scoring Ramlall sisters. They defeated Eastview 82-58 last week, cementing their status as a top contender.
Maple Grove (Class 4A, 7-1)The Crimson’s guard play and inside presence powered them to an 80-55 win over Crosby-Ironton. Kate Holmquist continues to lead the way.
Wayzata (Class 4A, 4-3)After a tough stretch, Wayzata remains ranked and looks to regain momentum heading into January.
Benilde-St. Margaret’s (Class 3A, 6-1)B-SM remains No. 1 in 3A after a dominant 75-42 victory over Byron. Juniors Pressley Watkins and Sydney Friedly are making noise, while transfer Alivia Bell adds depth.
Orono (Class 3A, 6-2)Led by Creighton commit Mya Moore, Orono is up to No. 2 after impressive wins, including a 73-48 rout of Lakeville North.
Providence Academy (Class 2A, 5-1)Winners of four straight state titles, Providence picked up another win and remains the favorite in 2A.
